Counseling Philosophy

I love working with individuals, couples, and families of all shapes, types, and sizes. If you’ve found your way to this website, I extend my hand to you in a virtual high-five for your vulnerability in seeking help.

My identity as a therapist is firmly rooted in the practice of compassionate connection. I believe that we, as humans, are small but beautiful members of many living systems. Within and between these systems, any small change has the potential to bring about significant, widespread changes throughout the systems. Therefore, in our work together, I will be curious to understand what systems (e.g., family, cultural, religious) may be impacting your lived experiences.

I also believe that profound and meaningful change comes through interpersonal relationships. In therapy, it is the relationship between therapist and client that brings about positive change. Therefore, in our work together, I will pay attention to the nature and quality of our relationship and will ask that you do the same.

I approach therapy from multiple theoretical perspectives, including existential, feminist, queer, narrative, and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral. My therapeutic approach is transparent and collaborative, such that I will never seek to do something “to you,” but rather “with you.” I believe that you are the expert of you, with wisdom and resources always already existing within you. Together, we will work to discover and uncover your wisdom and resources so that you can start thinking, feeling, and acting in ways that serve you best.
